Young shoppers take part in seasonal scarecrow competition at Fox Valley

9 October 2024

Dozens of youngsters took the opportunity to take part in a special harvest themed scarecrow competition held at Fox Valley in north Sheffield at the weekend.

The workshop was part of the centre’s Harvest Market and was organised by the Fox Valley team along with helpers from the local 214th Sheffield Stocksbridge St Anns Girl Guides and Brownies.

All the materials were provided and there was a prize for the most creative scarecrow – the town’s Mayor Cllr Alan Law joined in the Harvest fun to help with the judging.

Cllr Law said: “It’s wonderful to see children and families from the local community enjoying such a fantastic and creative activity here at Fox Valley.  It was an honour to be asked to judge these wonderful creations and it was difficult to pick a winner – so we had to have a runner up too”.

The winners were chosen for their fabulous creations and presented with a special hamper of goodies.

Centre manager at Fox Valley Charlotte Whittaker said: “This has been such a fun event to run. Something a bit different to the usual pumpkin picking activity too. It was so lovely to see families and friends working together and being creative. There was so much fun and laughter, it was lovely.

“The Brownies and Guides were a huge help, and I am so grateful for their support so we could run this little event as part of our Harvest Market – thank you to everyone who took part, we really did have some great scarecrows and we’ll definitely be looking to run the event again next year.”

This weekend the centre will be hosting the Homegrown Festival’s Makers Market on Saturday.
