Talented Trek cyclists flying the flag for Fox Valley during adventures across Europe

5 August 2024

A group of talented cyclists are flying the flag for Fox Valley by competing against some of the world’s best riders in competitions across Europe.

The Trek Sheffield Fox Valley Cycling Team was launched in 2022 and is made up of 12 riders – a mixture of members of staff, ambassadors and customers from the popular Stocksbridge-based cycling shop.

Over the last two years they have taken part in competitions across Europe including in Iceland, Finland, Spain, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland among others.

And the team have enjoyed a number of unique experiences on their travels including riding across a volcano in Iceland, cycling through vineyards in Italy and even meeting Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas in Finland.

Harry Myers, Sales Manager at Trek Fox Valley, said: “We all love cycling and a couple of years ago we thought the best way of channeling our passion for the sport whilst also promoting Trek would be to launch our own cycling team and we haven’t looked back since.

“We all love the buzz of competing, but it is also great to be able to travel and see all these different countries and cultures.

“It is also great to fly the flag for Fox Valley across the continent. We have the logo on our racing uniforms and funnily enough have had quite a lot of people come up to us on our travels to say they have visited the store.”

Harry and his teammates have competed in major races including the Gran Fondo World Championships road race and in the Trek UCI Gravel World Series.

The 25-year-old, from Holmfirth, added: “We have ridden over a volcano in Iceland and I remember the scenery was absolutely stunning.

“We also took part in a race that went through the Prosecco Hills in Veneto, Italy, which was spectacular.

“And the team met F1 driver Valtteri Bottas after a race in Finland. He owns a coffee shop there and we had a nice chat about the race – he was really friendly.

“These are experiences that none of us will forget, and it all stems from getting out and about on our bikes basically.”

The team relies on the durable Trek Checkpoint bike for gravel races, which benefits from wide tyre clearance and a rigid frame. Prices start from £1700.

They often go on training rides that start and finish in Fox Valley and take in some of the spectacular cycling trails around the area including the Peak District, around Holmfirth and Ladybower Reservoir.

Fox Valley is well-known to cycling fans as hosting the finish of the Tour de Yorkshire in 2017, in which some of the world’s top riders wowed a crowd of thousands by racing to the finish line.

Shoppers are welcome to pop into the store to chat to the team about their cycling adventures and also to take a look around their huge range of bikes and accessories designed for all surfaces including road, mountain, gravel and city.

Visitors can also test ride one of their bikes around one of the nearby cycling trails, and you can also have a go on the popular in-store cycling simulator.
