Fun weekend of markets, scarecrow making and prizes coming to Fox Valley

3 October 2024

A bumper weekend of markets, scarecrow making and fun prizes is coming to Fox Valley in what promises to be a real treat for shoppers.

A number of traders are expected at the popular Stocksbridge shopping centre on Saturday and Sunday (October 5 and 6) for the latest Makers Market.

Shoppers are invited to discover a wide range of unique gifts and goods produced by talented makers from across the area between 10am and 3pm on both days.

In addition, youngsters are invited to come along and make their own scarecrow at a special Autumnal-themed stall on the Saturday between Noon and 2pm.

Youngsters wishing to take part are asked to make a charitable donation of £3 in return for two canes, hay, baler twine and clothes so you can make your scarecrow. Entry forms will also be available at the stall.

The scarecrows will then be put on display and judged with prizes available. The judging will kindly be undertaken by The Stocksbridge Town Council Mayor, Councillor Alan Law, at 2pm.

Members of the local St Anns Girl Guides Group and Brownies Group will also be on hand to help run the stall.

All profits from the scarecrow stall will be donated to The Dransfield Foundation, which supports a range of good causes.

In addition, the regular Friday market will precede the Makers Market at the bottom end of the centre, near Aldi and Home Bargains, between 10am and 3pm.

Charlotte Whittaker, Centre Manager at Fox Valley, said: “Alongside our fabulous market traders we are offering something fun for families to get involved with this weekend and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone’s scarecrow creations.

"Fox Valley is at the heart of the community here in Stocksbridge and these markets and events are always an ideal opportunity to discover the fantastic range of products being made and sold by the amazing independent traders we have in our region.

“This also serves as a chance to pick up a precious gift for a loved one if you want to get in there early with your Christmas shopping.”

If you are visiting for the bumper weekend, why not check out our fantastic range of stores including Sandersons, our long-established on-site department store, and Pavers – our recently-opened shoe shop.

The Fox Valley car park offers four hours free parking with all day parking available for just £3.50.

The centre team is always on the lookout for new independent traders to join their regular weekly and monthly markets.
