22 April 2024

Fox Valley will be winding back the clock this Saturday [April 27] with The Valley at War event taking place from 10am until 3pm.

Organised by Stocksbridge and Deepcar Royal British Legion the day promises to be a fantastic experience for the whole family with a host of free entertainment and displays on offer at the popular north Sheffield shopping centre.

Visitors can expect to see history displays and stalls, a wartime ambulance, vintage fire engine and Poppy Bus. Live 1940s music will set the atmosphere and the organisers are encouraging everyone to dust off their dancing shoes and partake in some 1940s style dance.

Interactive stations will be held by the Stocksbridge History Society and Sea Cadets showing what life was like on the home front and how the guides won the war. There will also be free children’s activities for youngsters to partake in.

Abi Hilton, Fox Valley’s Centre Manager, said: “We are looking forward to what will be a fantastic, enjoyable family day out this Saturday.

“Allowing people to delve into history and really experience what life was like in the Valley during wartime.”

The event will take place near to the glass walkway leading up to Aldi and Home Bargains.

The organisers are also encouraging visitors to share their family stories and memories for the Royal British Legion’s Stocksbridge clock tower centenary heritage project.
