Fox Valley shows commitment to community by teaming up with rugby clubs to sponsor local derby matches

22 October 2024

Fox Valley shopping centre has shown its commitment to the community by providing sponsorship for a series of local derby rugby matches.

The popular Stocksbridge-based shopping destination has pledged its support for a series of matches between Wortley and Stocksbridge rugby union clubs.

The two teams are contesting the Fox Valley Trophy over a series of three matches after the centre provided the silverware, plus a man of the match trophy, branded rugby balls, and event promotion at the shopping centre and online.

Andy Tyers, Director of Rugby at Stocksbridge Rugby Union Football Club, said: ”It is great to have two local teams with a friendly rivalry and with the support of Fox Valley we can now drum up even more interest in the fixtures within the local community.”

Charlotte Whittaker, Centre Manager at Fox Valley, said: “These are two fantastic local rugby clubs that we are proud to be supporting.”

The first match was won 36-15 by Wortley on September 28. The next fixture will be contested at Wortley’s Finkle Street Lane ground on Saturday, November 30, and then the third fixture is at Stocksbridge’s Coal Pit Lane Arena on Saturday, February 1.

Members of the public are invited to attend both matches, which kick off at 2.15pm and the games are free to attend.

The winner of the inaugural Fox Valley Trophy will be the team that has scored the most points over the three game series.
