Family-run café adored by coffee lovers and brunch fans opens at Fox Valley
18 November 2024
A family-run café that has proven popular with coffee lovers
and brunch fans has opened at Fox Valley shopping centre.
The Old George has been a hit with customers at their three
other sites across Barnsley, Sheffield and Huddersfield.
So much so that their unique brand of carefully-crafted
coffee, tasty treats and meals regularly feature in the top 10 best places to eat lists on Tripadvisor.
They have just opened their latest venture at the former
Raffina/Dysh café close to the roundabout at the entrance to the
popular Stocksbridge-based shopping centre.
Couple Gareth Derbyshire and Andrew McCulloch used to joke about opening their own café after a hard days work in their previous careers as teachers.

Several years ago they decided to turn their dream into a
reality and opened their first venue in Barnsley, calling it The Old George as
a nod to the name of a pub that used to be based in the town.
Fast-forward to present day and they are now welcoming
customers through the doors of their fourth venue at Fox Valley.
There are a number of special offers available at the café
that shoppers can take advantage of.
This includes a bake and hot drink for £5 during their first
week of trading and 20 per cent off bills over £30 until November 24.
The are also offering 10 per cent back in points via their
loyalty system.
Gareth said: “We used to go for a coffee to have a bit of
peace and quiet away from our busy careers and family life and always thought
it would be really nice to open our own coffee place.
“We have just grown and grown since then. It has been a
whirlwind and we cannot believe how much the business has taken off.”
Andrew added: “We try to work with local butchers and
growers, which really shines through in the taste and quality of the food.
“We also cater for a lot of tastes, including offering
gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options so there really is something for
everyone.”
Popular menu options include the Classic George cooked
breakfast, pancakes, brunch options including smashed avocado on sourdough, a
lunch menu including steak and halloumi sandwiches, plus a wide ranges of
coffees, teas and desserts.
The team also plan to host events at the café in future
including live music and fun family-themed activities.
Charlotte Whittaker, Centre Manager at Fox Valley, said: “We
want to extend a warm welcome to Gareth, Andrew and all of the team at The Old
George and wish them many years of success in the future.”
The café will be open seven days a week, between 9am and
4pm.
