Dog owner inspired by her canine friend Chester to launch doggy deli at Fox Valley

2 October 2024

A dog owner has been inspired by her canine friend Chester to launch a new doggy deli business at Fox Valley.

Barnsley woman Kirsty Baylis said her poodle/springer spaniel cross provided the inspiration behind her launching House of Chester in February this year.

Kirsty has spent the last several months selling her doggy treats and accessories online and by attending events.

The business has really taken off in that time with customers loving her wide range of products, which include all natural healthy foods and treats, plus accessories such as harnesses, leads and bandanas.

She has now decided to set up shop in the Citroen van sited at Fox Valley shopping centre in Stocksbridge in order to keep up with the growing demands of her business.

Kirsty said: “Chester is a very energetic little doggy but is also very friendly. I am hoping to bring him along on some of the days I am open so people can see him!

“His personality inspired me to launch the business but also because I saw that there was a gap in the market for the kind of products I sell.

“I have two young children and there are loads of small businesses selling cute, handmade products for babies and toddlers – but there aren’t really many places that sell nice little products for dogs.

“Business is going great and I’m really looking forward to opening at Fox Valley and benefiting from the high footfall.”

Kirsty is due to open House of Chester on Saturday, October 5, at 10am, which will also coincide with the latest Makers Market weekend.

She will be offering a number of giveaways and discounts as part of opening day.

This includes providing one free puppuccino per dog for each purchase.

Kirsty will also be delivering leaflets around the area ahead of the launch and anyone who brings that to the shop on opening day will receive a 10 per cent discount.

There will also be an opportunity for dog owners to have their pets’ paws printed on a canvas to take home for free.

In addition, she is planning to bring Chester to the opening day.

Charlotte Whittaker, Centre Manager at Fox Valley, said: “We are so pleased to have House of Chester here at Fox Valley and I am sure there will be plenty of dog owners with their furry friends paying a visit to see Kirsty and Chester.”

House of Chester can be found on the sheltered walkway leading towards Home Bargains and will be open Wednesday to Sunday between 10am and 4pm.
